Value Education

Values education provides students with a value-thinking experience which helps them sort out and reflect on their own values. The use of life issues and experiences allows students to nurture the awareness of their own moral outlooks and those of others. The discussion helps students ponder on related values behind ideas and behaviours, which foster their thinking about related consequences and develop more thoughtful considerations of choices. Such a collective and reflective process encourages learners to be empathetic and accommodating towards diversity, enables them to face and resolve value conflicts competently and develop their own value systems gradually.

Values Clarification

Values clarification strategy is implemented in different ways, including clarifying response, writing activities and group discussion. In this excerpt, our teachers clarified responses through guiding students into pondering the related values and considerations behind why they think money is crucial for friendship or not. The teacher responded to what students said about the role of money in friendship through careful scaffolds and authentic questions.

The purpose of clarifying response is to motivate students to investigate their words and behaviours that captured their understandings, expectations, feelings, hopes, attitudes and beliefs.

Inciting Affective Responses through Learning Materials

Our learning resources now have an expanded focus on life events, heightening the emotional engagement in the learning process. This innovative approach intertwines real-world scenarios with academic content, providing a rich and immersive context for reflective learning.

Our diverse modules, from self-understanding to financial literacy, are infused with authentic experiences. For example, the 'managing personal finance' module invites students to scrutinize their own consumer behaviour, evoking emotional responses and prompting behavioural adjustments to prevent overspending.

Through the exploration of multiple perspectives on daily events, we guide students in navigating value conflicts, stimulating critical thinking and emotional growth. Our learner-centric approach fosters meaningful dialogue and introspection, significantly enhancing the traditional learning experience.

Inspiring Reflections on Personal Growth and Future Aspirations

We continually encourage our students to engage in reflective practices as part of their learning journey. These activities are designed to foster self-awareness, aiding personal growth and clearer future aspirations. A recent example involved students writing about their role models and the qualities they hope to acquire. This thought-provoking task sparked insightful reflections and helped students articulate their future selves. Our teaching approach highlights the importance of introspection and personal development, providing students with the tools to confidently map their future paths.
