Inspired by "Don't Shoot," a song by The Game ft. multiple artists

About the Project:
"My topic is about police brutality and racism towards the black community.
For my project, I had done some research about "Don't Shoot" by The Game ft. Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, etc. I created a painting for whom this song is dedicated to - Michael Brown.
Growing up my mom always taught me not to treat those of color differently because we all have the same similarities, we all have hair, fingers, noses, toes, feet, etc. I picked this topic because having people hate on you for being a different color is so normalized in this world is utterly disgusting."

About the Project:
"I made my project about police brutality and the BLM movement. I drew Elijah McLain, a victim of police brutality, with an outline of a violin and a cat. I drew this because Elijah taught himself how to play many instruments, including the violin. [He also went] to adoption centers to play for the lonely cats.
I drew this because when we learn about new victims, the only thing we usually learn about them is the incident. We only see them as a victim and almost never learn about their personalities."
About the Creator:
"I’m a 16-year-old self-taught artist. I chose the topic because I spent most of my summer in 2020 learning about police brutality, systematic racism, and the different people that were murdered and wrongfully accused by the police. I disconnected from many people because of their ‘beliefs’ and opinions on the whole situation, since basic human rights should not be an argument."

About the Creators:
"I am a young black man in today's society, and it scares me to death with all the occurrences of police brutality. I don't even ride my bike down the street anymore because I don't want to be the next victim in a police brutality case, or accused of a crime I didn't commit.
This is why I picked this topic. I feel it really needs more awareness brought to it, because who wants to walk down the street wondering if they're going to die today, or if they'll be questioned by the police because of suspicions? I used to look to the police for help and protection, but now it seems the police are the ones I need protection from." - Emandre

About the Project:
"A man named Freddie Gray was unlawfully murdered. Famous songwriter Prince wrote a song called "Baltimore" to address the issue. We created a walk of fame star for Freddie Gray. We created it so that we may know he has recognition from us." -Jesus
"Racism is everywhere from history to art and even music. Many African Americans make music about racism and how some die of police brutality. After someone dies of police brutality, people begin trying to make a change by peacefully protesting -- while others take things more violently." -Fatima

About the Project:
"Vincent Ballentine is a mural artist with a Foundation in Street Art and Graffiti. He is also an accomplished Motion Graphics Editor and Animator.
My topic is police brutality, which is an unwarranted use of force by law enforcement. I recreated a mural that Vince Ballentine did of Elijah McClain. I chose to recreate this piece because of the meaning it has behind it. Elijah was, unfortunately, a victim of police brutality and I think it's very important to share not only him but other black people whose lives were taken too."
About the Creator:
I am a 15-year-old Mexican-American girl, and I chose this topic because it's important to me. There are so many things I can touch on for this specific topic, but the main reason I chose police brutality is because I know a few people who don't think police brutality isn't important. I wanted to try to expand their minds and take in what others' reality really is."

About the Project:
"My topic was on Breonna Taylor’s story and police brutality. Hundreds of black people are killed at the hands of officers who were meant to serve and protect, but instead failed and murdered those who were the ones who needed protection.
I created a sculpture of Breonna Taylor to represent how she is not forgotten and how people will continue to fight for justice for her."
About the Creator:
"As a minor, I don’t really have a huge role in society. I’m more on the sidelines watching and observing what is happening. Being on the sidelines has allowed me to see the cruelty shown to black people from the police.
Police continue to discriminate and show violence toward black people and it has got to stop. So many black people have been wrongly murdered by officers who’s only 'excuse' is that the person was 'violent' or that it was simply an 'accident.' No, the truth is that they are just racist and should not have the title or power that they do. The fact that the officers who murdered Breonna were not charged infuriated me, and that’s why I chose to do my project on Breonna’s story."

About the Project:
Inspired by John Legend's "Preach"
"The topic I chose was police brutality. In my model, I created a city with people marching in a black lives matter protest. I chose to create this because It shows a realistic visual of how people were protesting during the month of May in 2020. I picked this topic because it's something that truly gets me upset. As a young teenager, I feel like it's hard to speak on topics like this because I'm scared of saying the wrong thing. Creating this project was a way of expressing how I feel about this certain social issue."

About the Creator:
"I chose this topic because I can’t stand police brutality, or when police use their power to rise above others. Especially because I’ve seen some cops do this, and they have done this to my dad, who is a Latino male. I would like for this to change, [for] this country to change its way."
