Course Summaries
INTRODUCTION TO BAND
Grade Level: 9-12
Prerequisite: None
Length: Year
This course meets UC/CSU (F) and District graduation requirements for Fine Arts. This class is developing instrumentalists. Students will be given the opportunity to acquire understanding, skill, and technique in the performance of music for present and future enjoyment. Emphasis is placed on the development of tone, technique, and versatility of the individual player.
ADVANCED BAND
Course #53001 A/B Grade Level: 9-12
Prerequisite: Audition
Length: Year
This course meets UC/CSU (F) and District graduation requirements for Fine Arts. Advanced Band is a performance ensemble for advanced instrumentalists. Students will be taught musical skills, artistic perception, creative expression, and aesthetic valuing.
JAZZ ENSEMBLE INTRODUCTION

This course meets UC/CSU (F) and District graduation requirements for Fine Arts or Elective Credit. The Jazz Ensemble is a select group of 19 to 22 instrumentalists who will function as a performance group in big band jazz. The group will receive thorough training in the many styles of dance and jazz music as exemplified in the works of the most talented composers and arrangers in this field. Performances and rehearsals outside of the regular school day are required. Students must be enrolled in band to take Jazz Ensemble.
