This site (updated regularly) contains curated grade-specific lessons, tasks, and activities aligned to the 2020 Elementary Math Curriculum expectations to support mathematics planning, instruction, and assessment.

The new 2020 curriculum includes new mental math expectations across the elementary grades as well as additional specific expectations related to math facts. Number Talks are a daily routine used to support mental math skills and automaticity with math facts (develop conceptual understanding, efficiency with numbers and operations) in about 10 minutes per day.


The HDSB Getting Started with Number Talks documents for each division have been updated in the links below and include:

    • alignment to the 2020 curriculum expectations for math facts and mental math

    • revised sample Year-At-A-Glance plans

    • updated number talk representations

    • new additional sample number talks

Coding Help!

The new 2020 math curriculum has introduced the topic of Coding as part of the Algebra strand. Click the link above to check out resources that can help you get started with coding. You'll find information about:


  • The progression of learning for coding across the elementary grades

  • Definitions of coding language from the curriculum expectations

  • Resources, examples, and lesson plans for coding (including plugged and unplugged examples for each grade)

The samples to the right were created using Google Slides. In Google Slides you can:

  • Create a Title using Word Art

  • Insert Special Characters to add interest

  • Build a graph (insert cart) and then change the formatting to match your Infographic

  • Create a custom colour pallet

  • Use a filled rectangle to add colour to the background

  • Insert shapes such as arrows to draw attention to items
