The interior of Mars. The Olympus Mons volcano is 72,000 ft tall, thats really tall!
Hi this is Bevaan R. and I will share information about Mars, the fourth planet in the Solar System. Mars, also known as 'The Red Planet' is the 4th and last terrestrial planet. Mars has clouds and wind just like Earth. Sometimes the wind blows the red dust into a dust storm. Mars has 3 layers - crust, mantle and core. The crust on Mars is made of iron, nickel, and sulfur. Between the core and the crust is a rocky mantle between 770 and 1,170 miles (1,240 to 1,880 kilometres) thick. The mantle is largely dormant. It is made up primarily of silicon, oxygen, iron, and magnesium and probably has the consistency of soft rocky paste. The core is mostly made of iron with some possible lighter elements such as sulfur. The Martian atmosphere consists of 95% carbon dioxide (CO2), 2.6% molecular nitrogen (N2), 1.9% argon (Ar), 0.16% molecular oxygen (O2), and 0.06% carbon monoxide (CO).
The surface of Mars. You can see there are clumps of rocks, a mountain is in the distance.
What does Mars surface look like
Its surface is rocky with canyons, volcanoes, dry lake beds and craters all over it. Red dust covers most of its surface. The atmosphere on Mars is mostly made of carbon dioxide. It is also 100 times thinner than Earth's atmosphere, so even if it did have a similar composition to the air here, humans would be unable to breathe it to survive. When you see Mars at night in the sky, it has a reddish tint to it. When rusty dust from those rocks gets kicked up in the atmosphere, it makes the martian sky look pink. From far away, the whole planet looks kind of reddish.
Mars has surprisingly powerful snowstorms, which form at night. Although the planet has relatively little water vapor in its atmosphere, clouds of water-ice crystals can still develop.
