An exciting new qualification offered at HHVCS Sixth Form

LLS - Sports Studies

Introduction to the subject

At LLS our aim is to train the next generation of sports industry professionals. Our course is structured so that over the two years, students studying with LLS will leave sixth form with the knowledge, experience and network to enable them to progress into the career pathway of their choice. Students will study the Pearsons BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development which is the equivalent to 3 A-Levels. The course is multi-faceted and will equip students with the knowledge and qualifications to be able to pursue whichever route they decide to take after sixth form, whether that be university, an apprenticeship or to go straight into full-time work.

Structure of the course

The course studied is made up of 12 units over the two years. There are 7 mandatory units and the rest of the course is built around the cohorts strengths and interests, but will typically consist of:

Career paths and next steps

The sports industry is ever growing and is doing so at an exponential rate. Having successfully led students from all over the UK and Europe onto careers in sports and active leisure, LLS know the course opens doors for those who wish to work in the sector. Given the variety of units students will study, the opportunities available at the end of the course really are widespread. Students have gone on to become international sports coaches, physiotherapists, sports nutritionist, personal trainers, worked in media and many more.

FAQ about the subject:

Will we go on any trips?

Absolutely. LLS have a wide range of opportunities for students to broaden their horizons and enhance their network. Having centres based all over the UK and even across Spain, Tenerife and Qatar, our student exchange program is extremely popular and all students have the opportunity to continue their studies at an alternative centre for up to 2 weeks.

The LLS HQ is based in Liverpool and has capacity to host over 50 students. Residentials are run throughout the academic year including a Welcome Team Building 2 day residential, Women Who Lead workshop and Coaching Experience workshops.

Finally, combined with the Steven Gerrard Academy, we also offer residential trips to Alicante and Tenerife as part of a sports performance programme where students have the opportunity to study, train and coach abroad.

The trips are self-funded, but students are encouraged to fundraise for their own aspirational funds to enable educational experiences.

What skills will I develop?

Students have the opportunity to learn and develop a range of transferable skills that will set them up for the career path of their choice. Of course, the course has an emphasis on coaching so there is wide scope to develop the associated skills that are required in all walks of life - communication, teamwork, public speaking, organisation, leadership etc.
