Course Structure

AS Health and Social Care

The first unit (Unit 2) to be studied involves the development of a health promotion campaign to a target audience of your choice, for example, you might work with one or two others in presenting a healthy eating campaign to a local primary school. The focus for your course work, which is 60% of the AS, is your understanding of the theory of health promotion as well as the planning and evaluation of your campaign. An examination (Unit 1), worth 40% of the AS, presents you with novel scenarios which test your understanding of principles of care, caring techniques as well as some of the legislation that supports a patient’s rights.

A2 Health and Social Care

The third unit (Unit 10) is an in depth case study about the health care needs of an individual of your choice in later adulthood. You will conduct detailed interviews and questionnaires to find out if the services this individual uses are effective in maintaining their quality of life. This case study includes a detailed secondary research based analysis of the physical and cognitive effects of aging as well as the social, emotional and economic impacts of aging.

A final 10 hour controlled assessment (Unit 7) builds on these skills by offering you a choice of scenarios to investigate in order to describe and assess the effectiveness of the provision of local services for one named condition.
