In this project I am working by myself. The materials I need for this project is a Micro bit, computer, and expansion kit for Micro bit. The plan for the project is to control a servo motor with an eye attached to it. The unique qualities my project has is the different technologies.
Day 1. I started coding using tutorials, I learned how to move the motors.
Day 2. I printed the eye I would attach to the servo with toothpicks
Day 3. I adjusted the tooth picks and how far the servo could move. I started filming and taking photos.
Day 4.I made the video and edited my website
Using Micro bit and expansion kit, I created a servo-controlled eyeball. I did this because it was a cool way to show how the servo moves. I attached the clips to the computer, hot glued sticks to the eye, and finally attached eye to the servo.
During this process, I learned how to code servos using the Micro-bit code block. I have never used the coding script for Micro-bit to code a servo motor. I also used the website for help on how to move the servo.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative Designer because I used different technologies to create a new creation/idea. Or, if someone has used a servo they haven't had the same idea as to what I did.
A challenge I overcame on this project was how far the angle of the servo could move. I was able to do it by adjusting the code so the servo had a boundary it could turn. This took many trials and errors to figure out the correct number I wanted.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the appearance of the eye. I would do this by adding other features like LEDs or sound. The reason why I would change this is that it would make the eye cooler.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Computer Programming CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to careers in engineering, computer design, and coding.
This video shows the finished product of the eye. It also shows how you control the servo by pressing the buttons.
This picture shows the battery pack, Micro-bit, the alligator clips and wires, and the servo.
This is the back of the eyeball, the toothpicks go into the little holes on the servo so it holds the eye up.
This is an image of the code used to control the servo and show the angle of where the servo is pointing.
