My group is Spencer, and Ethan.
The material I needed for this project is a makey makey kit, play dough, and tin foil.
The goal for the project is to make instruments with makey makey.
Unique things about my project is that we used two instruments like a little band.
On day one, my group used Scratch to find a virtual drum kit. Next, we connected the alligator clips to the makey makey board. Finally we added the tin foil to the clips, and we had our drums.
On day 2, Spencer and I decided to play instruments together. I played the drums, and Spencer played the piano. We played a very beautiful duet together on play-dough buttons this time. We used two makey makeys on day 2. We used play dough, and online websites on our chromebooks to play the instruments.
Using Makey Makey, I created a interactive virtual drums set and piano. I did this because I wanted to make music with Makey Makey. I used online websites like scratch to get the interactive instruments.
During this process, I learned how to make buttons out of play dough with Makey Makey. I was able to make buttons by attaching playdough to the makey makey alligator clips. Then the makey makey was hooked up to the keyboard that played the notes.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Creative Communicator, and Computational Thinker because I used Makey Makey to play the drums and piano. I used the instruments to communicate with sounds.
A challenge I overcame on this project was finding the best material for the button. I was able to do it by experimenting with the two options play-dough and tinfoil. I found that Play dough works better because you can stick it to the table so it doesn't move.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the controller from play-dough to pencil led on paper. The reason why I would change it is because I think it is easier to control the wires when the led can be led off of the paper to the wires. Also, the led takes up less space and make everything less crowded.
