Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I will be working with Ethan on this project. I will do the research and theorizing independently and then I will record the video with Ethan having him ask questions. This will work well because it will be Ethan's first time seeing my theory so he will actually be trying to learn about it.
What materials will you need for your project?
For this project, I will need an iPad, a microphone, cardboard, and some drawing equipment. I need the first two for recording for editing, and the second two for making models. I may also need my computer to quickly type an intro script.
What is your plan to create in this project?
I plan to create a somewhat satirical video displaying a theory on how many clones of Bruce Willis it would take to beat Bruce Lee. I will also show in the same video how they would do it using visual aids.
What unique qualities will your project have?
My project's unique quality will be a serious and thorough response to an entertaining satirical question I have asked myself. It will be intentionally comedic but it won't just achieve its comedy by being low in quality or being plain nonsensical or surprising. In a way, the comedy will be in the sort of contrast between the tone of the question and the response.
On this day I began my research on Bruce Lee. I researched his JKD martial art and how it could combat multiple people. I also began theorizing the math of beating Bruce Lee.
On this day I began strategizing on how Bruce Willis would beat Bruce Lee. I came to a strategy of encirclement using the body measurement of Bruce Lee to figure out how big the formation would be. I also began writing an intro for the video.
On this day we recorded the segment of the video where I showed the physical model. I also did a little bit of the editing on this day. The bulk of the editing would be done the next day though.
On this day I finished editing my video. My throat was sore though so I couldn't record the rest of the voice-over like planned. I did get work on my website done though.
On this day I finished work on my website. I got my daily logs up to date and organized everything. I finished by writing my description.
Using iMovie, I created a video detailing how many Bruce Willises it would take to beat Bruce Lee because I wanted to make a video of a comedic question answered seriously. I used a mix of footage and a voice-over to display this question and response. I then edited it in iMovie after importing the footage and audio.
During this process, I learned about making theories on things and researching things with objective facts. During this project quite often I had to make assumptions about the opponents' fighting style and other subjective things. This differs quite a bit from other research projects I've done where there were objective facts and answers.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project tied to Knowledge Constructor because I had to research using set frameworks to get enough information to develop a theory. This information collection using processes to check and store information made this a knowledge constructor project.
A challenge I overcame on this project was figuring out how I would calculate how many Bruce Willises it would take to beat a Bruce Lee. I was able to do it by figuring out what formation they would be in and then calculating how many it would take to fill that formation. I did this by modeling everything at a one-twelfth scale so I knew everything would fit right.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the video to be more in-depth. The reason why I would change it is because I feel the video wasn't very detailed about my research process and the measurements. This is mainly because I was limited by having a sore throat.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Digital Multemedia CTE program at Hastings High School. It connects to this program because the most important aspect of this project was the video that was produced on it. The editing, photography, and other decisions made on the video are what connect it to this program all about displaying Ideas like ours virtually. My project connects to careers in Multimedia Design because I filmed, recorded, and edited this video to convey an idea. This concept of using digital media like videos and audio in combination to convey ideas is at the core of careers in this field.
