Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I am working entirely by myself on this project. I will not be working with anyone else because this is supposed to be autobiographical. The most I may work with someone else is by asking them what they have noticed has changed about me.
What materials will you need for your project?
I will need my iPad, copyright-free images, and my computer. This project will be done entirely digitally so I will need nothing other than the devices that are provided to me. You could also say though that I need the electricity to power these devices.
What is your plan to create in this project?
My plan for this project is to design a video describing my growth in playing checkers over the past year. I will edit together clips of audio and images to make this informational video. I will use the iMovie app the put it together.
What unique qualities will your project have?
My project will have the quality of being a sort of introspection on my own growth in playing the game checkers. It will make me do things like reflect on what I have learned and maybe even try to critique myself. It will likely be quite accurate because of course no one knows more about myself than myself.
I assembled this website. I added my ten ideas and planning question. I decided that I should choose my idea of explaining my journey to become better at checkers.
I added some imagery to the video. While I did this I also began planning the script in my head. I also added some background music to make the video less quiet.
On this day I completed work on my website. I typed the description for this project and inserted the video. As you may asume this was also the day I finished typing and editing the daily log.
On this day I recorded the audio for the video. I had to tweak a lot of the audio so there was a somewhat consistent volume. I also did some work on this website.
Using iMovie, I created a video about my growth from 7th to 8th grade because I wanted to document how I changed over the summer. I made this video with copyright-free images and a voiceover I recorded myself. This video was entirely made on my iPad.
During this process, I learned about using the Ken Burns effect and editing audio for voiceovers in videos. I learned that you want to tweak the volume of audio to make it sound more consistent throughout your video. I also learned that with the Ken Burns effect you want it to end at the center of attention in the image.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Empowered Learner because throughout this project I worked independently on my own goal of depicting how over the summer I got better at checkers. I leveraged the editing software I had on my iPad to meet this goal.
A challenge I overcame on this project was making the voiceover easy to understand. I was able to do it by editing all of the clips of audio to have a similar volume. Though it sounds like the voiceovers were all recorded separately I would say I succeeded at regulating the volume.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change when and where I recorded the voiceover. The reason why I would change it is because The background noise is different in all of the clips and the microphone quality varies. I would fix this by getting one working microphone and recording out in the hallway
