Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I plan to work alone on this project. I will do all of the designing and the 3d modeling. Although Mr. Renner will likely do the printing if not myself.
What materials will you need for your project?
For this project, I will need two things and a few things to support them. I will require a computer and a 3D printer. The computer will be supported by things such as a keyboard and monitor, while the printer will be supported by filament.
What is your plan to create in this project?
For this project, I will make a storage method for ties. I will begin by planning it out. Then I will model it out and print it.
What unique qualities will your project have?
My project will have the qualities of being a solution to a personal problem of mine. This will make it so I understand the preferences of the consumer, myself. This will motivate me to do my project well because I will be directly impacted by its success.
On this day I created the website and decided what my project would be. I made the list of ten and filled out the planning questions. After both of these were done I began planning how I would design it.
On this day I modeled the design for the hanger inside of Tinkercad. Remembering the mistake I made in my coin sorter project I made sure to check the measurements so everything would fit. In fact if I hadn't the hook likely would not have fully wrapped around the rack in my closer, or anyone else's for that matter.
On this day I modeled the other designs I made to pass the time untill the first model was printed. A bit of the day was occupied though with helping hunter with a checkers board he was designing. Over all though this was not a very busy day.
On this day the print was complete. It was able to hold the tie well and the measurements were right. I forgot to record a video of it this day though because I got sidetracked helping with Hunter and Ethan's animation.
On this day I recorded and edited the video of my project. I also did the voiceover a little bit after recording the video. I began writing the description more towards the day's end.
Using Tinkercad, I created a tie hanger because I wanted to make a solution to one of my own problems. I first sketched it out on paper. Then after modeling it in Tinkercad, I sent it to Mr. Renner to be printed.
During this process, I learned to check that my models are the right size by checking the grid and modeling real objects in Tinkercad to make sure everything fits. I did this by googling the standard diameter of a dowel rod and modeling it in Tinkercad. I then checked it by seeing if the dowel had an open path in and out of the hook.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project is tied to Innovative Designer because throughout this project I had to brainstorm and use design processes to make my design fit its purpose well. You can see this with the planning and testing I mention throughout this page.
A challenge I overcame on this project was making sure the design would fit the ties and the rod in my closet well. I was able to do it by measuring the things in real life and recreating them in Tinkercad. This worked quite well because everything ended up being a perfect fit.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the design to have more loops. The reason why I would change it is because if the original design worked the second design that could hold more ties I made on day three also would. It would likely also be more efficient than printing one holder that could support two ties at a time to print one that holds 12
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. It connects to this program because throughout this project I had to utilize sections of the engineering design process to refine my design to serve its purpose. My project connects to careers in Product Design. It connects to careers in this sector because I necessarily designed this product with the target consumer, myself, in mind, a core tenet of the field.
