Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I am working with Ethan and Hunter on this project. We will write our own scripts and work on our websites separately. We will record the podcast together though.
What materials will you need for your project?
A microphone for recording, a computer for typing the script, and a printer to print it off or an iPad to view the script. I likely may not need the printer though because I could read the script off the Chromebook. I also may not need the microphone since there is a built-in microphone on the iPad.
What is your plan to create in this project?
I plan to create a podcast about food that you can make with little effort. I will record this podcast on iMovie using a script I wrote on Google Docs. We will then edit it in iMovie and post it on the site.
What unique qualities will your project have?
My project has the unique quality of being an educational piece of media to teach you how to make simple food. While also simultaneously being a way of documenting these nice snacks from our individual lives. The good thing though is by using the former to explain the latter I can easily maintain both qualities.
On this day we began planning our project. We decided that we would do a culinary arts project but we didn't know how. So we decided to do a podcast and made a shared document where we began work on the script.
On this day Ethan was gone so we were not able to get very much done. We did as much of the writing we could do without Ethan. Of course though that is not very much so I can not report alot for this day.
On this day Ethan returned so after he got some writing done we printed off the script. We recorded the entire podcast on this day after a few attempts at the script. We did not begin editing though because the bell cut us short.
On this day I began editing the audio from the previous day. I split up the podcast into different sections with labels. I also gave the podcast a logo by using a website Hunter had shown me.
On this day I added a soundtrack to the background of the video. I decided to turn up the volume of it and add a Ken Burns effect on Ethan's segment to boost the dramatic atmosphere. This was also the day I began finishing my website.
Using iMovie, I created a podcast because I wanted to make a project that was tied to culinary arts. I chose to use a podcast because out of my available mediums, it seemed to work best. I chose to use iMovie so I could edit it instantly after recording it.
During this process, I learned about the process of making a podcast. I learned about the writing of the script and the sort of trial and error required to get a good recording of it. I also learned somewhat about the editing with how I had to split up the audio into sections and figure out which parts would be louder and quieter.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Creative Communicator because I had to figure out what the best medium would be to display my project and then display my ideas as well as possible. The ideas of course were our snacks and the recipes and stories behind them.
A challenge I overcame on this project was figuring out how we would share the script and make sure everything was consistent. I was able to do it by making a shared Google document and then putting all of our lines on the same paper. We then labeled our lines so that when we printed off the paper we would know what to read.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the length of the podcast. The reason why I would change it is because I feel the podcast was quite brief not even hitting five minutes. I especially feel that Hunter's part should have been longer because it takes up far less time than Ethan's and I's parts.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Culinary Arts CTE program at Hastings High School. It connects to this program because this project was all about food and its production, which is also the focus of the Culinary Arts program My project connects to careers in content creation because we pretty much just created online content for this project. If we were to be content creators we would likely find ourselves making a podcast at some point, if not frequently.
