Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I will be working independently on this project. I may use someone else's assets but that is the most assistance I will get. This game will be made entirely by me.
What materials will you need for your project?
This project will be mostly digital so I will need very few materials. I will only really need my computer to access the CoSpaces platform. Unless you count the minor things such as a mouse and a keyboard or some paper and pencil to chart things out.
What is your plan to create in this project?
I plan to create a maze game with multiple levels. I will make it entirely on the CoSpaces platform. Both the modeling and the coding will be done in CoSpaces.
What unique qualities will your project have?
My project will have the quality of sort of being a mix between an entertaining game and a stressful challenge. It will have many twists and turns and if you do make a mistake it may ruin your playthrough. At the same time, I am challenging myself to balance these two factors in a way that keeps it engaging.
On this day I tinkered with the idea of the maze. I came up with the plan to connect the maze's levels in a confusing way. I made level zero on this day too.
On this day I linked some of the levels together and began work on the second maze. I had the layout set in stone by this day and all that was left was to make more mazes. I did some math and theoretically, there should only be an 8% chance of finishing the game on the first try.
On this day I made the next level. I finally began to make the points where the possibilities branch out. I noticed though with the rate I was making mazes I should probably do some work from home.
On this day, I completed the second to last level of the game. I finally had the game set in stone and all that was left to do was do some work over the weekend. I had the maze-making down to a science so I could get it done quite quickly.
On this day, after completing the game, I finished the website. I took screenshots of the code and made the video. As you may assume I also wrote the description.
Using CoSpaces, I created a maze game because I wanted to improve on my last maze game. I wanted to improve because the last one was rather short in length and lacking in content. Other than CoSpaces I used iMovie to do the editing.
During this process, I learned how to interconnect multiple scenes in CoSpaces using inputs like clicking certain objects. I never did it in 7th grade and did not really even think to do it. I learned it by asking a friend of mine about it.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to because Innovative Designer because I had to go through quite a few changes while designing my maze to suit its purposes. Such as the return doors going one level back instead of two or there being different indicators for different doors. I mainly refined the maze through processes of play testing and doing a little math.
A challenge I overcame on this project was making the maze longer than the last one. I was able to do it by using a structure consisting of multiple levels and drawing out the dead ends to cause confusion and delay. This gives it far more gameplay than my previous single-level maze.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the amount of interaction in the game. The reason why I would change it is because the only real interactions you have in the game are clicking to read dialogue and clicking to get to the next level. The most I had was the option presented whether or not to return to the start.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Computer Programming CTE program at Hastings High School. It connects to this CTE because this project was based on basic block programming which to an extent is just a quite simplified version of computer programming. My project connects to careers in game development and to a looser extent software development. It connects to these because, in a sense similar to the CTE connection, I was just doing a simplified version of the tasks you would find in these jobs.
