Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I will be working by myself. I may consult others for help but the work on the project will be solo. I may also watch other's tutorials in the process though or import models.
What materials will you need for your project?
I will need my computer, for the modeling, an iPod for the testing, and my iPad, for the editing. Almost all of this project will be digital. This project will be mainly based on the coding process and 3d modeling.
What is your plan to create in this project?
I plan to create an experience in virtual reality, CoSpaces. I will model the world and then code ways to interact with it. I will make it a maze-style adventure game.
What unique qualities will your project have?
My project will have the quality of being a sort of experience that depicts reality but with an abstract turn. It will begin with the basic concept of exploring a real environment, a supermarket. But then it will take the turn of being a maze game.
I explored the projects other people have made on CoSpaces. I looked into what mechanics I could incorporate into my game and what they do. I also made a list of ideas.
On this day I began building the VR world. I made the basic outline of the main building. I also started brainstorming the objective of the maze.
On this day I began building the maze. I added multiple twists and turns and decided the aim of the maze would be to click on something. I also made a model for a shelf.
On this day I added more details to the world. I rearranged some of the aisles in the store. Then after that I put some signs around it.
I finished the layout of the aisles on this day. I designed fluorescent lights for the roof and began work on the roof itself. I also began working with the code while adding a Easter egg where another person will be hiding behind the aisle to the right of the entrance and they have some dialogue.
I made the decision to give the game an ending. I added some code so that after you found the mother there would be another challenge. Which was of course to escape the store.
Using CoSpaces, I created a VR experience because I wanted to make a sort of game that utilizes virtual reality. I made a maze game that is set in a supermarket. I did this on the CoSpaces platform.
During this process, I learned about virtual reality and the steps to making a virtual reality experience. I first designed the map and then wrote the code for the movement and the changes in the environment. I learned a bit about 3d modeling too because I had to design and then import some models for the map.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Empowered Learner because during this project I acted on my own accord deciding what I wanted to do with this project and using what I was provided to bring it to life. This of course ties to the Empowered learner standard because it is about setting your own goals and using and troubleshooting with the technology you have to reach them.
A challenge I overcame on this project was finding the right models to use for my project. I was able to do it by designing my own models and importing them into the platform. This is where I got the models for the shelves and the fluorescent lights.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the amount of effort I put into the code of the experience. The reason why I would change it is because I feel that I did not utilize enough code and the environment is kind of bland because of it. I would likely add more dialogue and make a timer in the corner of the screen for how long you take to complete the maze.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Digital Multimedia CTE program at Hastings High School; This is because this project was mainly based on displaying an experience or concept using the mode of technology. My project connects to careers in VR game engineering, mixed reality art, and game development. My project, of course, connects to these careers because they are based around doing things that I did in this project, like designing worlds for VR, coding VR games, and etcetera.
