I'm working in a group of three with Ethan and Dimitri.
The materials we need are cardboard, hot glue, strings, and duct tape.
We are gonna attach string to each finger so it can move and be able to snap.
The unique part of our project is you can move the fingers and actually snap. It'll also be unique because its silver instead of gold.
Are group is thinking of building an infinity gauntlet. Are idea is to use string to be able to move the fingers and snap. There can be room for improvement and modification though. Its going to be silver instead of gold because we think it will look better silver. To make it silver me and my partner will add tin foil and hot glue it. It will also cover some of the holes that we cant cover with card board.
Day 1: I've been brain storming some ideas i have about 4 down. Me and Ethan are thinking about doing an infinity gauntlet as our choice. The vending machine is on the table though. Ethan is studying what the gauntlet looks like so we can see the joints and how we should do ours in a way that can be successful.
Day 2 I have my idea down I'm building an infinity gauntlet. I have also sketched this project I'm gone use string to move the fingers. I began by building the wrist plate. I have also attached the first part of the string to the wrist plate so it can attach to the palm latter and then the fingers.
Day 3 We have started building the first finger it is a little hard with the string idea. I'm gonna try to brainstorm a new idea to make it easier. I'm thinking maybe using the string in a different way through the side of the fingers instead of the back. Or just getting rid of string all together but me and my partner have to think of a new idea.
Day 4 My partner had a great idea to use duct tap to move the fingers. Now this is working much better and were flying by this this project way faster. We also connected the palm to the wrist plate and the joints to the palm. We also started building three fingers with the new idea.
Day 5 all the fingers are complete and we finished wrapping the gauntlet in tin foil. The stones have also been attached. I've also started typing my reflection. I'm also doing the video so we can edit it.
The Sketch and stuff that can go wrong.
The start of the wrist plate and palm.
The palm before the wrist plate.
The wrist plate is connected and the 3 fingers are connected.
4 fingers are connected and we are constructing the thumb.
All 5 fingers are done.
The tin foil is wrapped and the stones are attached.
This is the video showing the parts.
Using cardboard, duct tape, hot glue, and tin foil , me and my partners created an infinity gauntlet because we wanted to make a glove that would actually snap and kind of look like the real thing so we made it into a three part piece so it could actually be moved. We made artificial joints out of duct tape as it actually worked way better than string. We also built this because we thought it would cool and fun.
During this process I learned working better in groups and not trying to be the dominate one and making it worse than if I let someone speak up. This was especially true with making a new idea for the fingers if I didn't let my partners speak up this would have been impossible. Another thing I learned is better thinking to not rush making things way worse looking a less functional which I've had issues, which I did in the beginning almost running the function of the gauntlet. That is what I've learned from this project.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, and Creative Communicator, because it had to be done by certain design that was innovative in the moment with the duct tape joints with out that it wouldn't even work. Its also communication because it took plenty of ideas and communication to be able-to think of a new solution because another one didn't work our we will need something or it will all fall a part. All of that was possible with bouncing ideas of me and my partner. My project lastly works with computational thinker because it took a lot of brainstorming to figure out how we were going to be able to move the palm and the fingers with out it falling a part.
A challenge I overcame on this project was making the fingers move and making the thumb. I was able to do this by first for fingers Ethan thought of an idea to make a duct tape around were each finger bone separates so it can be bent it ended up working so well, we scratched the string idea. Only one finger needed string it was the wring finger because it kept going forward. For the thumb we actually made a longer thumb that cant be moved. We tried are absolute best to make it move but it wouldn't work it would keep breaking so we settled on making the thumb longer so the middle finger could come down and snap.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change jumping wright into the project without brainstorming that much in the beginning. The reason why I would change it is because it would always cause some problem in the long run. For example as we were making the fingers we didn't know how we were going to attach the string to make it move and attach it to the palm at the same time without it breaking. It actually made the project take more time as we were stuck fixing stuff that should have been though about.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to careers in toy designing. The reason mine ties to toy designing is because it could be played with like a toy and is workable meaning it would snap. It would also not break that fast unless you like ripped it into pieces. It would however break if you left it outside.
