The monument was a tribute to the Renkerts, the original owners of the land that the cemetery resides upon.  The first burial in St. James Evangelical Cemetery was Christine Renkert in 1872.  The monument also includes the 4 headstones pictured below (for Jacob, Christine, Maria Barbara and Jacob Jr.).
