Biography: *We believe the spelling of his last name is actually Hauck and was misspelled on his gravestone*Gabriel was born on June 11, 1811, the son Phillip Jacob Hauck, Sr. in Darmstadt, Germany. He married Catherine Ebert in 1836 in Germany (Catherine passed away 16 years prior to his death). He immigrated on the ship Montezuma in July 1841. Gabriel owned a butcher shop on the north side of Main Street in Hamburg, a few buildings west of Buffalo Street (his son-in-law, Andrew Stein, was also a butcher there). He was the grandfather of Emma and Henrietta Lawacheck, who are buried at St. James behind his gravesite. Gabriel passed away on February 22, 1890. He was in his usual health up to 3 days before his death, when he received a light shock of paralysis and heart failure. He was described as a good citizen, kind neighbor and constant friend.
