Biography:  Frederick was born in 1804 in Darmstadt, Germany.  He came to America in 1831.  It is said that he was the first German to settle in Hamburg.  He was a turner (a woodworker who used a lathe to make curves in wood) by trade and married Catherine in 1853.  They resided in Hamburg with their children.  Frederick passed away on February 13, 1886.  He was known as an upright and highly respected citizen.  Their daughter, Catharine Kast, is also buried at St. James.
