In this subject you will learn to understand the world around you using logic, experiments and mathematics. You will study a wide range of topics from distances in space to practical electrical circuits. In physics we often investigate why things happen and how things work. In addition to the sciences, Physics is a gateway to technical and engineering subjects.
Achieving 60% or above in third year Physics.
The following units are studied:
Unit 1: kinematics, dynamics, orbital mechanics and cosmology
Unit 2: electricity, circuit laws, power and electronics
Unit 3: Energy, heat and gasses
Unit 4: Waves, optics and radioactivity
Assessment consists of two components:
1. End of year Exam
2. An assignment involving a practical experiment
Successful completion of the course can lead to study of Physics at higher level or entrance into college courses in the sciences or engineering/technical subjects.
Physics is a highly valued qualification in the workplace and can lead to a wide range of careers in areas such as:
Medicine
Engineering
Manufacturing
