As we ended Term 1, we also finished our second cycle of Week Without Walls (WWW). One of the school organized trips for WWW is to Bali, with the focus of contributing through the 4Ocean programme. Students were given experiential knowledge on types of plastics, its danger to the ocean and how can we give back in order to help our oceans to recover. Students also took part in sorting trash and doing a beach clean up in the Canggu area.
Since our goal for WWW is to make sure students are involved in giving back to the community, we also visited the Gurukula orphanage, where students played games and cleaned the school and dormitory area. At the end of the day, students forged new friendships with the other students in Gurukula and closed the day with a hearty dinner of sate lilit and urap bali.
In addition to the two main activities, students also took part in protecting the environment by visiting the turtle conservation area and by releasing the tukik, baby turtles, into the ocean. On the last day of the trip, students still had time to plant mangrove trees by the coast, as a preventive measure against ocean erosion.
All in all, the WWW trip to Bali was a success and all students enjoyed and received a great deal of experiential knowledge from it. We wish the students to continue their desire to contribute to the community, either by creating their own service project or by joining in other service experiences in the future.
