For the unit, “How We Organize Ourselves”, Year 4 students are learning about the Central Idea: Evolving technology creates opportunities and challenges for individuals and societies.
They are inquiring about this under the Lines of Inquiry:
▪ Impacts of changes in information and communication technology (ICT).
▪ Technology as a tool.
▪ Digital citizenship.
As part of their learning through the integration of ICT and the Personal Development Programme, students spent a number of sessions each week developing an understanding of bullying and looking deeper into online bullying and ways to engage safely and appropriately on social media sites. Discussions, videos, and Padlets were used to teach particular knowledge, attitudes and skills for interacting online.
ICT SKILLS DEVELOPED for STUDENTS:
1. Investigate – students investigate the ways that digital shared spaces can be used effectively and safely
2. Create – students create online conversations using Padlet
3. Communicate – students communicated with each other in a digital space in an appropriate and safe manner
4. Collaborate – Students collaborate with other members of the class and teachers to help understand the strengths, limitation rules and dangers of engaging online
5. Organize – students organize themselves and conversations online so they are useful and understandable
6. Responsible Digital Citizens – students learn how to be responsible when engaging in social media and online shared spaces.
At the final sessions, Year 4 students explored the school’s POSSSE (Policy for Providing Safe and Supportive School Environment) with their class teachers and Ibu Ninggar. They discussed the rationale and the appendixes, reflecting about how similar things may have happened around them and who are responsible for creating a safe and supportive school environment. Diving deeper into how they can take part in the process of preventing and overcoming bullying cases at school, the students also created the POSSSE flowchart for students displays in groups to put up around the Primary Building.
