We have had a great start to the 2019-2020 school year. Over the course of this first term, we have enjoyed smooth transitions into new year levels, a great induction programme for our new students, inspiring Independence Day activities, energetic (and hot) athletics carnivals and wonderful International Peace Day learning engagements. However, this is certainly not an exhaustive list, the Primary students are busy inquiring and exploring every day!
Both in and outside of classrooms, our students have been working hard, moving through their first units of inquiry, not only acquiring new knowledge but also asking questions, thinking conceptually, developing skills and making connections locally, nationally and internationally. This will clearly be evident when parents come to visit the learning environments, examine the learning engagements and portfolios and discuss progress and goals with the teachers and their children at the mid-semester conferences.
New initiatives, such as student leadership opportunities, complete with training programmes, and Google Suite for Education accessibility, ensure the learning in Primary is constantly evolving and reflects the school vision, as well as the needs and interests of our students.
We strongly encourage all parents to check their child/ren’s ManageBac calendar regularly. This will allow you to remain informed about academic programmes, important information and upcoming events. We would also like to encourage parents to identify ways they can support their child/ren’s development of self-management skills. This may be as simple as organising and carrying their own bags to school for our younger students, while older students could have specific responsibilities and expectations for helping around the house, managing their homework independently and applying organisational skills in everyday situations.
If you have any questions or concerns about learning within the Primary School, our teachers, PYP Coordinator and Principals are happy to help.
