As Hubert H. Humphrey once said, ‘The greatest gift of life is friendship’ and so as the introduction to our new unit of inquiry, under the transdisciplinary theme ‘Who We Are’, the Year 1 students celebrated ‘Friendship Day’ on Wednesday 18th September. The day’s activities had been planned to encourage the students to find out more about their year level friends and to develop teamwork.
During the ‘Find A Friend Who’ game, the students used their communication skills to ask questions to find one person for each category. They then completed a series of team building challenges, cooperating and collaborating in order to be successful. The day’s final activity was to make a bookmark for a friend from the other class, to complete this task, they had to interview their partner to discover their favourite things and then use this information to create a bookmark.
The students had a lot of fun and were eager to start inquiring into friends and friendship.

During our second unit of inquiry, the Year 1 students are being challenged to complete as many random acts of kindness at school as they can each week, in order to promote kindness, appreciation, friendship and caring.
What are random acts of kindness? Random acts of kindness are actions, big or small, that are kind to others.
Year 1 parents, we need your help to report whether kindness is really contagious. Please let your child’s class teacher know about any random acts of kindness your child completes at home.
