Dear Global Jaya School Community Members,
I have had the pleasure of being a member of this wonderful school community for just over nine years. During this time, I have been lucky enough to witness hundreds of students join us, each growing and developing physically, emotionally, socially and academically over time. It has been a sincere privilege to watch the achievements, challenges, resilience and commitment of students across all areas of the school. However, after what will be ten years at GJS, I will be leaving to relocate my family back to Australia.
My children and I are extremely grateful for the time we have spent at GJS and in Indonesia, it has shaped who we are and our aspirations for the future. My eldest, Sebastian, will be completing his IB Diploma Programme this year, while Zachary, my youngest, will be completing the Primary Years Programme. It is for these reasons, and a need to be closer to my extended family that we have chosen the end of this school year to say goodbye.
While we will be returning to our family in Australia, we will also be leaving behind a supportive and caring community in Indonesia. I wish the wonderful GJS Community much growth and success over the coming years and look forward to continuing to work alongside you all for the remainder of this school year.
In the words of the amazing Winnie the Pooh, “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard”.

Hello GJS Community,
For those who don’t know me yet, my name is Ibu Dewi. In Primary, together with Ibu Sarah, I am in charge of making sure that everything runs smoothly so the students can have the best learning opportunity possible available to them. If you want to find me, my office is on the 2nd floor of Primary building.
I am very delighted to have this new edition of Kontak come out in a different format. Not only because it looks fabulous, but I believe our community can now see and better appreciate the dynamic nature of our school. GJS is not a static space. There are lots of learning opportunities, engagement, activities, programmes and projects happening here and there around the school. Communicating these regularly to the whole school community is one of our commitments, and we are always looking to improve the way we communicate. I hope that you enjoy and are able to learn more about GJS by reading this new edition of Kontak.
I would like to give you a little bit of an update regarding our SPK accreditation. For those who might not know what SPK is, allow me to explain it a little bit. SPK stands for Satuan Pendidikan Kerjasama (Collaborative Education Unit), which is a status awarded by the Indonesian government since 2014 to any international school or national plus school in Indonesia who works in collaboration with other Foreign Education Institutions. As a result of this new status, as of 2015, there are no longer any schools operating in Indonesia that have an international status (except those that are run directly by an embassy). Global Jaya School, along with other schools such as JIS and BIS fall under the SPK status. This year 150 SPK schools are going to go through the very first SPK accreditation by the government.
We have been informed that the Primary level (SD) is going to be evaluated and considered for accreditation in November 2019. Even though we haven’t got the exact date for this, nor the instrument and criteria which will be used for the evaluation, we have begun to prepare everything we believe will be required. We always consider the accreditation process as an opportunity for us to reflect on our practices. Our hope is that this process will help lead us to a better version of Global Jaya School.
