Dear GJS Families,
Welcome to the newly updated Kontak, our monthly newsletter dedicated to celebrating teaching and learning as well as highlighting student and faculty achievements, both inside and outside of the classroom. As noticed, we have embraced a digital platform for our Kontak and moved away from a PDF style magazine. We have implemented this change for two reasons. The first is to support our community members who are accessing the Kontak via any number of different sized mobile devices. Our new platform automatically resizes the content to fit the display on any handheld device. The second, to facilitate the power of collaboration that comes with our adoption of Google’s G Suite of Applications for Education. At the start of the 2019-2020 school year, Global Jaya School officially became a Google School, and all student and faculty members were issued school-based Google email addresses.
Within the Kontak, each of our Principals has the opportunity to share with our community their thoughts, updates, along with any important announcements. Please read these valuable messages.
We have enjoyed a very hectic month in and around our campus. Primary students traveled around the Greater Jakarta Area on year level trips in support of their Units of Inquiry. Numerous class assemblies showcased the creativity and talents of our students. Our Secondary Week Without Walls service trips brought GJS service and action to multiple areas within Indonesia. GJS students successfully planned and hosted the Hawks 3X3 Basketball CAS activity. University Fairs brought well over 100 local and international colleges and universities onto our campus to meet with GJS students. Our sports teams represented GJS with pride and determination in JAAC basketball, volleyball, and football matches. Our Primary Students showed their spirit, endurance, and athleticism at their Sports Carnivals. Finally, Secondary Students produced an International Day of Peace Assembly and hosted related internationally-minded activities. All in all, an exciting month to be at Global Jaya School. Details about some of these events will fill this months edition of Kontak.
Last week, we celebrated current GJS faculty and staff that have reached significant anniversary milestones with their tenure at Global Jaya School. Congratulations to those team members who are celebrating their 10th, 15th and 20th anniversaries as members of our community:
10 Years: Zulkahfi Ilmi and Regina Anindya Tantri
15 Years: Nadya Abrahams, Asrozi Rodjali, Anindya Windita Hartono, and Imam Santoso
20 Years: Gunardi, Anna Yohana, Indri Nurachmawati, Rina Wahyu Wijayanti, and Popy Novita
At Global Jaya School, we are committed to ensuring the well-being of our community members, faculty and students alike. For the past month, GJS faculty engaged in ongoing professional development in two major areas. All faculty have enrolled in and will have completed mandatory Child Protection in International Schools training by the time we reach fall break. Last year we made a concerted effort to develop a comprehensive Child Protection Policy and to train up all faculty. This year, in continuing our implementation efforts, all faculty and staff who work with children will complete a refresher Child Protection course. The second area of staff development we have committed to is first aid training. All Secondary faculty, along with any new hire Primary faculty, will be completing their training over the coming weeks. We have had three groups complete the 9-hour training and testing session so far, with an additional two more groups to go. While Primary school faculty completed the live training last year, they will complete an online refresher course through Educare this year to remain current.
A gentle reminder that Mid-Semester Parent-Teacher conferences will be held on Thursday and Friday, 10th - 11th of October. We dismiss for our Fall Break (October 12 - 20) after the conclusion of MSC’s. Classes will resume with the start of term two on Monday, October 21, 2019.
Please enjoy this month’s newsletter.
Warm regards,
Cory J. Carson
