Dear Secondary Community,
Time flies when you are having fun. October was a productive, inspiring, and meaningful month for our Global Jaya Secondary students. We offered many opportunities for them to demonstrate agency and commitment, and as usual, they rose to the challenge and made us proud.
We kicked off the month with the field opening ceremony, where our secondary house captains led their teams in a cheer presentation, filling the atmosphere with energy and true celebration. The two following days were dedicated to deep, constructive conversations around first-term reports and each student's personal goals. Parents, students, and teachers spent two full days discussing strengths and areas for growth to help students make any adjustments needed to reach their goals by the end of Semester 1.
A couple of weeks later, when GJS hosted the IBAP Regional Workshop, more than 300 participants praised the exceptional job done by our secondary student ambassadors. Our ushers spent the day not only guiding attendees but, most importantly, making them feel welcomed. They represented the IB learner profile traits through kindness, caring, and a principled attitude, showcasing what makes them truly special.
Shortly afterward, students from Years 7 to 11 embarked on Week Without Walls trips, creating lifelong memories with friends, strengthening bonds, and forming new connections. True to our school’s mission, we also used these trips to develop MYP Interdisciplinary Units, where two subjects combined to tackle a real-life problem from multiple perspectives. The trips further served as an opportunity to give back to the community through CAS and SaA initiatives, where our students shone brightly once again.
As this issue is posted, we are already in the middle of the Hawks Cup—the biggest student-led event of the year. It has been inspiring to watch the Student Council navigate every stage of planning and execution. When given the chance, our students consistently go above and beyond our expectations. Our role remains the same: to encourage them to achieve more, do more, and learn more.
As a picture is worth a thousand words, I’m sharing an incredible video created by Pak Jeffrey that captures the wonderful time our students had during WWW, along with a few photos from the IDU exhibition. As I finish this paragraph, I’m heading to join the Halloween Parade—I’ll tell you all about it in our next issue.
