Students in Year 5 took part in the National Assessment (AN) last Wednesday, 30 October, and Thursday, 31 October 2024. The National Assessment is conducted annually by the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Research and Technology for Grades 5, 8, and 11 and consists of three parts, namely, Literacy and Numeracy, Character Survey, and the Learning Environment Survey.
The National Assessment assesses a school's performance. It does not assess the individual student. It is an adaptive format of assessment. The test becomes more manageable or challenging depending on the student's ability to answer the questions.
The strategy to run the assessment
One of our strategies for doing ANBK is to practice if we have time and learn a lot when the holidays arrive. And we don't waste our only spending. We don't know when it will start. And play with your friends.
One of our strategies for doing ANBK is to study the test first and stay focused. We also tried our best to answer the question and read twice. Teachers have helped students rehearse the format to familiarize them with the online assessment.
Reflection
After our ANBK practice, we improved our thinking skills, stayed more focused on our work, and did not get distracted. We also focus more on listening to our teachers to get all the information.
Year 5 has an upcoming summative project called the Science Expo. It is mainly about forces, and the student will use their knowledge of forces applied daily. The project will be run in MPH; all year levels can see the student's projects. The summative project will take place on 1 November.
The purpose of this event is for the students to show their understanding of scientific forces. Students will share their knowledge of how the scientific forces and concepts work in real life, using the knowledge, skills, and understandings gained throughout the unit.
They will follow the design cycle and the scientific method in their works. They are expected to be able to present connections to forces that encourage the audience to investigate the actions of forces such as push and pull in the workings of different tools.
We interviewed several representative class 5 students, the real actions they took during the learning process in unit 1.
