On 13 February 2025, pink, red and white filled the corridors of Global Jaya School as the Secondary Student Council manifested love and appreciation to life during this year’s annual Valentines celebration. What is known globally as a day for romantic love turned into something even more significant at Global Jayaa celebration of friendship, gratitude, admiration and community spirit.
In the days leading up to the event, excitement ran high as students placed their orders for this year’s Chocolate, Cards, and Roses Delivery Service. This year, the Student Council continued the annual tradition and offered four different packages to choose from with ways for students to customize heartfelt letters to friends, teachers, and a special someone. Whether it was a simple customizable card or full package with chocolates, candy, and roses, no card felt impersonal. To uphold a respectful and safe environment for both the sender and the recipient, every letter was read and checked before being sent out. Senders were given the option to remain anonymous, use their initials, or proudly put their name.
On the day, the Period 2/3 celebration kicked off with a procession of Student Council members marching out of the design room, armed with piles of cards, bouquets of roses and buckets of sweet treats. Instead of disruption, classrooms erupted with gleeful smiles and surprised laughter. Recipients reacted emotionally to unexpected deliveries: some blushing at anonymous notes, while others warmly thanking friends who happily signed their notes. A good time was had, staying in the spirit of the season of appreciation.
Adding to the celebratory atmosphere was Valentine's Dress-Up Day, which encouraged students and teachers to dress as their type or wear Valentine's colors red, white, and pink. While many outfits showcased creativity, the usual school dress code was still enforced to keep the celebration appropriate and inclusive. With a range of coordinated friend-group-themed ensembles and simple accents of colour, the campus was filled with a lively display of school spirit.
In Plaza A, the Wall of Love quickly became a heartwarming centerpiece of the event. A large display invited students and teachers to write stories, memories, and messages about all kinds of love—friendship, family, mentorship and self-growth—consuming sticky note after sticky note as the day went on. Signed and unsigned, each message added to an ever-growing collage of little gratitudes and positivity by the end of the lunch break. Throughout the day, students monitored the notes to keep the Wall of Love a respectful, safe space of expression and community, reflecting the same vision the council maintained as they planned the event as a whole.
Online, this absorbed itself into the student council's Instagram confession box—prompting even more responses. Followers of the account—students and other members of the community—were able to send in messages (ranging from goofy confessions or even genuine appreciation posts) knowing that they would remain anonymous and that they would be put up on the story. This new feature quickly became one of the little things most of us looked forward to, as we enjoyed the banter it created amongst us across different year levels, all while maintaining the level of appropriateness needed.
By the end of the day, it was obvious this year’s Valentine’s celebration had fulfilled its raison d'être. In lieu of romantic emphasis, this event celebrated the diverse relationships that make Global Jaya School a supportive and cohesive community. Whether it be through anonymous confessions or public serenades, from simple sticky notes to dramatic rose deliveries, every event exhibited appreciation, inclusivity, and school pride. The Secondary Student Council would like to sincerely thank the School Executives, teachers and staff who supported and approved this event and made sure it was running smoothly and responsibly.
Most of all, thank you to the students and faculty members who came along and participated in the chaos with dignity and enthusiasm; you have all once again proven that the greatest thing that Global Jaya has to offer is its people. As the decoration was stripped away, and the last rose was ushered into someone’s heart, one thing was certain: at Global Jaya, love is never celebrated within a 24-hour timeframe. However, on the 13th of February, that love was celebrated beautifully.
