The Year 1 team was so proud of our students during the recent Year 1 Animal Safari.
The children shared thoughtful ideas about what animals need to be happy and healthy, and their enthusiasm showed how much they care for the natural world.
The students began the project by researching their chosen animals using PebbleGo and classroom books. They gathered facts about diet, water, shelter, and the places each animal lives. Then they used that knowledge in two hands‑on ways:
Creating homes: Each child made a diorama that showed their animal’s habitat. Using craft materials, they carefully added details—food sources, water, shelter, and other features—to make each habitat realistic and clear.
Writing information reports: Students wrote short reports to explain interesting facts about their animals. These reports demonstrated developing research skills and the ability to communicate ideas clearly to others.
During the Animal Safari event, the students proudly shared their dioramas and reports with parents, classmates, and teachers. Their projects showed creative thinking, growing scientific understanding, and strong communication skills. Most importantly, the safari revealed a year-level full of students who are curious about animals and eager to look after them.
Well done, Year 1 - your caring, creativity, and hard work made the Year 1 Animal Safari a wonderful learning celebration!
Our Year 1 students stepped into the role of “action warriors” as they explored how people can both harm and help the Earth.
After watching a selection of short, age‑appropriate videos and taking part in thoughtful class discussions, each child was invited to make a personal pledge to take action for the planet.
The students began by identifying ways humans negatively affect the environment - things like littering, wasting water, or cutting down trees. Teachers guided conversations so children could connect these ideas to everyday choices they see at home and school. Then each student chose one concrete action they could do to help, such as:
Taking shorter showers
Picking up litter
Turning off the lights/AC when not needed
Using both sides of a sheet of paper
Walking or biking short distances with family when possible
Using less tissue
Planting seeds or caring for plants
Seeing our students' name specific actions was powerful. They showed genuine understanding that small, consistent choices add up. Many used language like “I can help by…” and “I will try to…” which highlighted growing responsibility and confidence that their behaviour matters.
These action pledges are more than a one‑off activity; they’re the first step in building lifelong environmental stewardship.
We’re so proud of our Year 1 action warriors for thinking critically, making thoughtful choices, and committing to do their part for the planet.
Always remember that small promises grow into big habits!
