Dear parents and caregivers,
Global Contexts and Learner Agency in Action
As we move closer to the Year 5 PYP Exhibition, learning across the Primary School continues to focus on student voice, choice, and meaningful inquiry. During this period, students are strengthening the skills and dispositions they will need to lead their learning with confidence and purpose.
Across year levels, students are exploring ideas connected to community, identity, environment, creativity, and responsibility. These themes support children in making sense of the world around them and understanding how their learning connects to real-life experiences.
What Learning Looks Like in the Classroom
In the weeks leading up to the Exhibition, students are given increasing opportunities to take ownership of their learning. You may notice your child:
Talking about questions they are curious to explore
Making decisions about how they research or present their learning
Reflecting on what they are learning and how they are learning
Working collaboratively and learning to listen to different perspectives
These experiences help students develop independence, confidence, and responsibility, key elements of learner agency.
Building Global Understanding
As part of their inquiries, students are encouraged to think beyond their own experiences. They explore real-world contexts and consider different viewpoints, helping them develop empathy, open-mindedness, and respect for others.
Through discussion, collaboration, and reflection, students learn that learning is not just about finding answers, but about understanding complexity and making thoughtful choices.
Preparing for the Year 5 Exhibition
All of this learning contributes directly to preparation for the Year 5 PYP Exhibition in April. Students are practicing essential skills such as research, time management, collaboration, and self-reflection. Most importantly, they are learning to take initiative and be responsible for their learning.
The Exhibition is the result of this ongoing process, not a one-time event, but a reflection of the learning habits students have been developing throughout the year.
As we approach the Year 5 Exhibition, we look forward to sharing this learning with you and celebrating the growth, confidence, and agency our students continue to demonstrate.
Warm regards,
Lasin Ilbay
