This whole experience has been a roller coaster ride where I’ve had complications with the software, not going how I want it to go or just sitting there staring at the screen with nothing to work with. But there were productive times where everything just went alright and time just felt faster after that being able to finish a book even though it wasn’t a 24 page book I learnt my lesson there. And zines can be a bit overwhelming because thinking of the possibilities of what a zine can be gets me more indecisive, I may have a lot of ideas in my head but in the end I can only execute 1 or 2 and just feel like it’s not going how I like it to be but that will always be a learning curve for me

We did some exercises through photoshop and AI to get used to some of the features that we will be using frequently.
Took a while to get the hang of it so I noted down some shortcuts on to my notes just to help me whenever I forget how to use a certain feature. I quite like doing editing when there’s something to edit because it gets me focuse and time just goes by quicker when you’re busy. But then there are also times when I have nothing to edit so I’m just there re-editing some finish stuff or just playing around which I know I shouldn’t.
I experimented on this egg waffle illustration from the summer homework abc’s book. I think it was because I was really craving for egg waffles. But I tried some of the techniques we used on the dog exercises to this illustration and I feel like I would've done things a bit differently if I knew how to execute it in away.
We’ve also done something very exciting which was sending out 10 copies of our zines and receiving 10 different zines back from different creators. It was very exciting as I’ve always been super interested in receiving random artwork from different people. This was very much new to me and I’ll definitely do it again since I’m currently making another zine called “Swatch Bin” where I swatch pens, markers, paint and paper etc.
Making zines from the beginning was a thrilling experience because you could make anything into a zine and it was really a low cost, easy thing to make. Who would’ve thought that making something so small and finished would feel like an accomplishment. Probably because there wasn’t any stress and expectations about it.
Going through Blurb was interesting and was quite easy to use but then there were certain limits to it as well. I feel like I if I had presented more work I could’ve filled I that 24 pages but I just could get the motivation out to come up with words to match my theme of topic. There was a minor complication in the process of purchasing the book through college’s computer so we had to use Jane’s laptop and log in to our account to make our purchase.
But I’ll definitely think of using this software again to create a small book.
Doing the ABC’s summer home was fun. The only struggle I had was find things for X,Y,&Z I didn’t wanna go too obvious in those 3 letters.
But it really kept my mind away from lockdown and covid to just illustrate whatever represents the letter to me.
