This work is my first piece which was an illustration of our first meeting on zoom, I used alcohol makers and pen for most parts of the drawing and paint for the mulled wine on the right corner. This is where i first met the odyssey group. on our first monday night meeting we greeted everyone, introduced ourselves, talked about how we were, what everyone's Christmas tradition.
The first few illustrations of them in a box popping out with the Christmas vibes around them. Like what represents odyssey and their Christmas traditions and what we talked about during our meeting and what I've seen.
Planning the first drawing I sketched out a computer screen and and Christmas tree with a clear mug of mulled wine as my base and background. i was wondering how it would look like if i dre it digitally which i tried but didn't like the outlook of it so instead stuck to the traditional pen and paper. The digital version appeared to clean and tidy for me and i liked the streaky look that the alcohol markers made.
Then i scanned the layers and edited the rest on photoshop to remove the background and clean up any bleeding or black smudges that the alcohol markers had done. and then proceeded to edited the shadow drop from procreate and added snow dots effect on the tree and around the empty spaces. That was the fun part because i knew i finally finished the drawings and it was only a matter of editing a few bits here and there making it look finished before i start the second and third illustration
A quick time lapse of me editing on procreate just picking a background colour and snow as well as the shadow drop.
Before our last meeting i decided to illustrate the story of "Our Christmas traditions"

The book I picked is a children's book Murder most unladylike because I'm more interested to mystery and thriller. Its a about these two Best friends called Daisy and Hazel from Deepdean School for Girls, a boarding school. It is 1934 and the wannabe detectives having set up their own secret detective club, the Wells and Wong detective society, When Hazel discovers the body of teacher (Miss Bell) in the gym it is time for the Detective Agency to get into action to solve what has happened, especially as the body of Miss Bell is moved and no one knows where to! It is up to the girls to prove that Miss Bell was murdered by eliminating suspects around the school. As President of the Detective Society Daisy is quite bossy but her hearts in the right place and Hazel is Secretary and Vice President who creates the most wonderful case notes.
Listening to this book on audible was honestly a thrill. At the first half i wasn't into it and i just refreshed my brain and restarted it from the beginning probably because it was my first time using audible to listen to an actual story book that isn't told in a podcast form of speech it took some time to adjust without getting distracted and actually taking in the words, if you know what i mean?
Fortunately I was able to fine a great deal on audible and purchased the app for 99p (3months)
Apparently you can request a free digital copy of the book review by requesting it. Even though I finished listening to the book I thought it was still a good idea to try out and request it so that I can print out my favourite chapter that I was planning to illustrate as the book cover as I thought that was the thrilling bit. I received an email of step by steps on how to get the digital book and it was a bit annoying because I had to register/create an account on both platforms Edelweiss.com and the Pocketbook App to get it to my ipad.
The map of Deepdean school and I wanted to illustrate the Cloakroom that was mentioned in a specific chapter because that really stuck and was a thrilling part to me when i was listening to the audio book
Main Characters Hazel Wong and Daisy Wells
These are my notes on what text i have to insert to the front and cover pages.
I'm checking it out through different perspective
Recreating my sketch through a 3D model poser app to see how it looks
Went online to research on some referencing of cloakrooms and doors as well as some fancy frames. and then I went on to look for some kids book cover illustrations the styles that i like and often see in book stores now. Also looked into previous illustrations from the same book

Front will stretch to the spine
added a few more things to the cloakroom. On the bench i added more old dusty mouldy clothes and had the red book smaller and place more to the corner.
When i printed it out it was a bit too dark compared on screen so i added a light overlay to brighten up the images and it looked a bit better.
Logo: the title of the series will be inside the magnifying glass although maybe the two main characters could fit in it but it looks too busy and messy
Finished Cover, Back and Spine
Cullum showed us a great site to look for fonts and downloading the zip. file to Mac and use it on photoshop
https://fontmeme.com/
I use this site as well to get some fonts for other things but i dont think you can download it to a file and use it on photoshop like the one Cullum suggested.
