Recently, three freshmen here at GHS had the opportunity to interview Henry Royce, Mayor of Glasgow. Mayor Royce owned WCLU Radio for nearly 40 years, before selling it. Following this, he ran for mayor. Mayor Royce provided snippets regarding what motivated him to run for mayor in Glasgow. “Every kid deserves an opportunity,” he says. “So my motivation has been to give back.” Mayor Royce details his childhood and the way in which he was raised, and how his past involvement in the community drove him to run for mayor, thus aiding in creating a better city.
Mayor Royce also provided pieces of wisdom that he has picked up throughout his career: “As a person I’ve had to learn how to be patient to hear the truth. I’ve had to learn that sometimes it takes people a little while to tell you what they want to tell you. So, I’ve had to learn patience.” Mayor Royce’s advice regarding the importance of patience can be applied to everyone’s life. Undoubtedly, Mayor Royce has a lot to offer to this community.
As a GHS graduate, Glasgow will always hold a special place in Mayor Royce’s heart. When prompted about a notable piece of advice that he would give to high schoolers, he replied, “The image you project is not necessarily the one you think you’re projecting.” This invaluable piece of wisdom can prompt all students to think more critically about themselves, as well as what they could perhaps bring to the community. “We have a lot to be proud of,” Mayor Royce concludes. Glasgow High School would like to thank Mayor Royce for all that he has done for this community.
