This week a competition ran by Ms Edwards where the students taking culinary class get into groups and work hard to see who can make the most delicious cupcake. Teams make elegant displays, find recipes, and bake the best cupcake in order to win. Ms Edwards has expressed that she is very impressed with the students and their hard work and progress throughout the contest. The students are expected to find recipes online, gather ingredients, and prepare the cupcakes and icing independently. Many students find The Cupcake Wars exciting and are incredibly passionate about their themes which range from strawberry shortcake cheesecake to spongebob krabby patties, even gender reveal cupcakes.

As of the 2025 -2026 school year, phones, social media, and other personal devices are now banned in GHS. From 8:00 am to 3:05 pm phones, airpods, and apple watches are to be stowed away in your locker until the end of each school day. This rule is in place in order to comply with Kentucky House Bill 280 made by state law makers; this law encourages students to focus on their work and connect with their peers rather than resorting to pulling out a phone and scrolling on social media apps.
