Glasgow High School has many teachers that are dedicated to the education of every student at the high school. This week, we looked into one particular teacher, Mrs. Rodriguez. Mrs. Rodriguez is a math teacher at Glasgow and has been a teacher for eighteen years. She has taught at many different schools, from Barren County to Glasgow, to teaching at a school in Florida. She was born and raised in Glasgow, Kentucky and has many great memories there. One of her favorite childhood memories was being with her dad. Growing up, Rodriguez's father was in the Army National Guard, and when he had come back home from Operation Desert Storm, she was ecstatic to see him. “When they had finally landed… the second I saw him I started running, that was my daddy and I was running to him.” Then, during her senior year her dad was the special guest at the Glasgow High School Veterans Day program. Mrs. Rodriguez further elaborates how the program emotionally captured her, ”My dad was the guest speaker here at the highschool and then the elementary schools came over and they started singing the Lee Greenwood song “Im Proud To Be An American” and I just started balling. It was an emotional experience for me. That's a beautiful full circle moment.”
Mrs. Rodiriguez taught at Glasgow for 10 years and then made the life altering decision to move to Florida. There she trained to do some of the lead way classes similar to what Mr. Dakin teaches at GHS. There she was certified to teach introduction to Engineering and Design and principles of engineering. During her time in Florida she taught a gaming and geometry class. Educational career enchantments were not the only outcome of her Florida journey, she also met her husband who was the current janitor at the school she was employed at.
Rodriguez further expands on what inspires and motivates her, mentioning how students reaching out to her and seeing the material she taught be used in the life of her students. “Miss paterson was the kindest, most gentle soul you have ever met in your life. I knew that I needed to follow in her footsteps.” stated Rodriguez when expanding on who was a great mentor for her.
Rodriguez closes our interview with what she hopes all her current and future students know about her. She hopes all her students recognize she is always there for them and will do everything in her power to help them succeed.
