Expectations &

Work Ethic

To ensure safety and encourage an environment focused on learning, and as a representative of GGUSD, you are expected to:

  • Be ready to begin working with students at your scheduled contracted time. This includes allowing yourself plenty of time to:

              • park,

              • gather any necessary items, and

              • complete any personal necessities before your start time

  • Refrain from creating a distraction to learning or hazard to the safety of self or others, and/or creating a health hazard.

  • Maintain a professional demeanor and professional attire. The district understands that our paraeducators may be working hands-on with the students and a specific level of comfort in attire may be necessary; however, every employee should remain cognizant of wearing appropriate and professional clothing at all times. This includes making sure that undergarments are not visible and clothing does not include profane, suggestive language or with double meanings of lewdness, obscenity, violence, vulgarity, or that advertise unlawful services or products to minors as well as clothing/apparel containing symbols, or pictures and/or slogans oriented toward degrading or discriminating against a person’s culture, race, gender, sex, religion, or ethnicity. It is recommended to always wear closed-toe shoes for your safety. Employees shall dress appropriately and be groomed in a manner that befits the dignity of their occupation.

  • Maintain high ethical standards and exhibit professional behavior when interacting with students, other staff members and the public

  • Maintain positive and professional communications with staff, students and parents

            • Confidential information should not be shared outside of team members. If a parent has a question or concern about their child, direct them to the teacher.

            • It is advised that you do not give out your personal phone number to parents or students.

            • Pass on all parent notes/papers to the teacher.

  • Refrain from posting students' information, including pictures, on social media

  • Sign-in and sign-out every day

  • Wear your employee badge at all times

  • Be courteous and always silence your cell phone before entering the office and classrooms

            • Cell phones should not be for personal use during your work hours. Please make calls or texts during your designated breaks and/or lunch; in appropriate areas, away from the students. If you have an emergency, notify your teacher/supervisor before stepping outside of the classroom or away from students.

  • Communicate with your teacher and co-workers when exiting the classroom - never leave students unattended
