Candidates who are experienced and exceptional may be eligible to complete the Induction program at a faster pace than the full two years.
Senate Bill 57 (Scott) allows eligible Candidates to complete a Commission-approved professional teacher Induction program at a faster pace than the full two years generally required to complete all the requirements. Completion of the Early Completion Option (ECO) pathway allows Candidates the opportunity to earn their Professional Clear Credential. The intent of the law is to serve experienced and exceptional candidates.
GGUSD's Induction ECO pathway provides directed and enriched study of all components of the regular Induction program at an accelerated pace. ECO is not an independent study, an exemption from the program, nor is it intended for Year 1 teachers starting mid-year nor for Year 2 Candidates.
be currently employed in GGUSD
prove exceptionality - defined by GGUSD Induction program as ‘teaching practices, classroom management, and professionalism that exceed the expectations of an average first or second year teacher.’
be experienced - defined by GGUSD Induction program as having a minimum of 3 years full-time teaching experience
If, upon review of the criteria, you feel you meet the criteria, you may request that the GGUSD Induction program consider you as a Candidate for the ECO pathway.
To Apply for ECO, submit a Request for Support form - Early Completion Option by August 30th. The Induction department will reach out once the Request for Support form is received.
Provide documentation of a minimum of three (3) years prior full-time teaching experience as the teacher of record.
Submit authenticated performance evaluations from prior teaching. This may include evidence from past observations.
Submit two (2) recommendations from a personnel officer, principal or other administrative officer attesting to your fitness for ECO.
Submit a portfolio of work that substantiates your experience and exceptionality. The portfolio may include a resume, certificates of completion from professional development courses, assignments and adjunct duty descriptions.
Observations will be conducted by members of the Induction ECO Leadership Team to determine exceptionality of performance.
To be offered conditional ECO status, all of the above criteria must be met as determined by the GGUSD Induction Program. The GGUSD Induction Program retains the right to request any additional evidence that may be necessary to determine a Candidate’s fitness for the ECO pathway.
If accepted for the ECO pathway, you'll receive details on early completion expectations and timelines.
Failing to meet the expectations of the Early Completion Option could result in withdrawal from this Induction pathway. You must consistently show that the accelerated pace is the right approach for clearing your credential and ensure you retain the continued recommendation of your site administrator.
If you are unable to consistently meet the expectations of the ECO pathway, or if you elect to withdraw your application, you will be responsible for completing the full two-year Induction program.
It is expected that the ECO Candidate will attend all required meetings and expectations of the regular Induction program while exemplifying exceptional teaching and professional reflection.
If the ECO Candidate is not meeting program expectations for early completion of the program or if the Candidate fails to demonstrate skills, abilities, commitment, or professionalism on a level expected of and consistent with an ECO Candidate, then adjustments will be made as deemed necessary and appropriate by the ECO Leadership Team. ECO status is provisional and can be revoked at any time. If ECO status is revoked, the Candidate will participate in the full two year duration of the Induction program to ensure successful completion.
