Program Handbook
Garden Grove Unified School District offers the second tier of California’s two-tiered credentialing system for all new full-time teachers with a preliminary credential employed by the district. All teachers holding a preliminary credential, or teachers otherwise found eligible by the GGUSD Credentialing Department, are automatically enrolled in this free, two-year*, job-embedded, system of mentoring support and professional learning. The GGUSD Teacher Induction Program is designed to implement a robust mentoring system that provides individualized support in the development and growth of research based educational practices by building on the knowledge and skills gained during the Preliminary Preparation program. During their time in Induction, Candidates focus on developing individualized growth plans and are provided extensive support in getting connected with their System of Support, making progress in each of the six California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTPs), and developing habits of self-reflection.
Induction Mentors also receive extensive training and support in research-based mentoring practices.
*Due to the individualized nature of the program, two-year completion is a general projection and is not guaranteed. In addition, some Candidates may be eligible for an Early Completion Option (ECO)
The goal of the GGUSD Teacher Induction Program is to prepare all new teachers for career-long success through intentional, individualized, and supportive mentorship. The program’s design features, both individually and as a whole, serve to strengthen the Candidate’s professional practice and contribute to future retention in education. We aim to motivate new teachers to meet high professional expectations by developing skills in making informed decisions about their own growth and self-reflective practices.
Ensure intensive individualized support and assistance for early career teachers.
Model and encourage ongoing self-assessment and reflection for continuous improvement in the practice of teaching.
Meet the academic and personal needs of diverse students through inquiry, collaboration, and professional development for and with early career teachers.
All California Induction programs are monitored and accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) based on program preconditions and standards. The GGUSD Teacher Induction Program is fully accredited and maintains a design that meets and exceeds these expectations to ensure all of our Candidates are recommended for a Clear Credential and are well-prepared for their career ahead.
The GGUSD Induction Team is is housed in the Office of Personnel Services. We are comprised of the Assistant Superintendent of Personnel, a Director of Personnel, a Program Supervisor, a Secretary, and several Teachers on Special Assignment (TOSA).
