Georgia Southern University is a national leader in Coaching Education, preparing coaches of all sports and levels to be a positive influence on their athletes and communities. We are proud to be one of the first universities in the nation to earn national accreditation in coaching education for both our fully online master's degree and our undergraduate Coaching Minor.
Important Dates in Program History:
2023 - The federal Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) approved Georgia Southern University Coaching Education to be a National Youth Sport Strategy (NYSS) Champion- just the 13th university in the nation so recognized. (Source)
2023 - Ranked #10 in the nation among ALL online kinesiology degrees- not just Coaching Education- based on "overall quality, affordability & commitment to student success" by EduMed.org. (Source)
2022 - Ranked #4 in the nation in Best Online Masters in Coaching by bestcollegereviews.org. (Source)
2019 - Georgia Southern University is the only university in the nation to earn the prestigious Project Play Champion award from The Aspen Institute. (Source)
2018 - Georgia Southern University becomes just the second university in the nation to earn national accreditation of coaching education programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels from the National Committee for the Accreditation of Coaching Education (NCACE) when our graduate program earns accreditation and our undergraduate program is reaccredited. 2016 - Ranked #2 in the nation by Sports Management Degree Hub based on "affordability, flexibility, & academic prestige." (Source)
2011 - Georgia Southern University re-accredits our coaching minor.
2007 - Georgia Southern University's master's degree goes fully online, becoming a national leader. (Source)
2004 - Georgia Southern University becomes just the second university in the nation to earn national accreditation of our coaching minor.
2000 - Program Director, Dr. Drew Zwald, becomes President elect of the National Council for the Accreditation of Coaching Education (NCACE).
1998 - Georgia Southern University builds on our long tradition of coaching courses through the creation of a new coaching minor and a face-to-face master's degree. (Source)
1996 - The W.K. Kellogg Foundation awarded $30,000 to Georgia Southern University's Coaching Education program, under the direction of Dr. Drew Zwald, to "increase the number of qualified women and minority coaches who will serve the needs of communities and provide leadership in the areas of youth and physical sport activity by developing a Coaching Education Outreach Program." The Kellogg Foundation, established in 1930, has the main goal to “help people help themselves.” (Source)
