On Dec. 23, 2020, the Georgia Southern University Coaching Education Program announced our first-ever "Students of the Semester" to recognize outstanding achievement in fall courses. Honorees were nominated by the Coaching Education faculty for their performance during the semester. This inaugural class of eleven honorees included five graduate students and six undergraduate students, including one coaching minor of the semester: Colin Brister.
A Statesboro native, Brister gained valuable experience at several local schools during his time in the program. He majored in history with a minor in Coaching Education and graduated in December.
"I thoroughly enjoyed all the classes that I was required to take for the Coaching Minor. Each class provided a different perspective on the aspects of being a successful coach. I believe all the professors in this program put me in the best position to succeed in my future coaching journey," said Brister.
In the fall of 2020, Brister served his practicum coaching experience at Southeast Bulloch High School, where he helped lead SEB to their first region championship in 25 years. His hard work did not go unnoticed by Georgia Southern alumnus and Southeast Bulloch Head Football Coach Barrett Davis, "Colin did a phenomenal job with us coaching this year. He was very knowledgeable, reliable, and a hard worker. He also got along great with our kids."
Colin also showed exceptional performance in his KINS 4420 (Sport Conditioning Lab) and KINS 4730 (Coaching Practicum) courses.
"Colin brings a positive attitude to my course. He is always asking questions, relating class discussion to real situations, and wanting to get better with every assignment."- Ms. Sarah Davis, KINS 4420 Instructor.
"Colin goes above and beyond in his coursework. He is a hard-working young coach who has shown great initiative to reach his goals in coaching." -Dr. Hal Wilson, KINS 4730 Instructor.
Congratulations to Coach Colin Brister, Fall 2020 Coaching Minor of the Semester, on a job well done!
