On Dec. 23, 2020, the Georgia Southern University Coaching Education Program announced our first-ever "Students of the Semester" to recognize outstanding achievement in fall courses. Honorees were nominated by the Coaching Education faculty for their performance during the semester. This inaugural class of eleven honorees included five graduate students and six undergraduate students, including one coaching minor of the semester.
Congratulations to Jennifer Buffin, a Fall 2020 Georgia Southern Coaching Education Graduate Student of the Semester! Buffin, taking classes remotely from Colorado Springs, excelled in her graduate coursework for the Fall 2020 semester.
"She has amazing writing and critical thinking skills and has been able to immediately apply what she has learned to her coaching. Phenomenal student!" said Dr. Jody Langdon- Buffin's KINS 6132 (Research Methods) professor
Similarly, Dr. Hal Wilson, Buffin's KINS 7135 (Sport Coaching Pedagogy) professor, stated that, "Her work has been consistently outstanding. She goes beyond the surface level and digs deep into her vast experience. Our program is stronger because of students like her."
Buffin has extensive coaching experience, including as an Olympic Coach and serving as a NCAA DI Head Coach at the Power Five level. While Buffin waited until later in her career to begin the master's program, the benefits of the content have been evident in her endeavors as a coach.
She put it this way, "Starting a master's later in my career it was important to look for a program which would challenge and complement the knowledge I have gained throughout my career. The Coaching Education program thus far has helped me look beyond what I know as a professional and learn new strategies, methods and science behind what I have learned through my experiences as a coach, to better articulate to athletes and coaches the reasoning behind what we do and improve the experiences of the athletes I have the privilege working with."
Congratulations again to Coach Jennifer Buffin, a Georgia Southern University Graduate Student of the Semester for Fall 2020!
