DP Chemistry explores the composition, structure, and behavior of matter, as well as the changes it undergoes. Students study topics such as atomic structure, chemical bonding, reactions, acids and bases, energy changes, and organic chemistry. The course combines theory with laboratory work, where students conduct experiments, analyze data, and apply scientific methods. Assessment includes exams and an internal assessment worth about 20%, which is an individual investigation where students design and carry out a chemical experiment and present their findings.
DP Biology focuses on the study of living organisms and the systems that sustain life. Students learn about cells, genetics, evolution, ecology, human physiology, and biotechnology. Laboratory work allows students to investigate biological processes firsthand and develop scientific inquiry skills. Assessment includes exams and an internal assessment worth about 20%, where students design and carry out an experiment or fieldwork investigation and report their findings. Students will choose either DP Biology or DP Physics as part of their science studies.
NOT OFFERED FOR FIRST YEAR DP IN 2026/27
DP Physics explores the fundamental laws of nature, including forces, motion, energy, waves, electricity, magnetism, and modern physics topics such as relativity and quantum phenomena. Students engage in hands-on experiments to collect data, test hypotheses, and analyze results. Assessment includes exams and an internal assessment worth about 20%, where students design and perform an investigation that applies physics concepts to a real-world question. Students will choose either DP Physics or DP Biology as part of their science studies.
