The Extended Essay is an independent, self-directed research project culminating in a 4,000-word paper. Students investigate a topic of personal interest, formulate a research question and conduct in-depth analysis using academic sources. The process develops skills in: critical thinking, organization, and formal writing, providing excellent preparation for university-level research. Students are supported by a supervisor who offers guidance throughout the research and writing process.
Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is a core DP course that explores how we know what we claim to know. Students examine knowledge across different areas such as science, history, the arts, and ethics, and consider the ways culture, language, and perspective influence understanding. TOK encourages critical thinking, reflection, and discussion about the nature and limits of knowledge. Assessment includes a 1,600-word TOK essay, in which students respond to a prescribed question and explore knowledge questions in depth, and a TOK exhibition, where students select three real-world objects and explain how they connect to TOK concepts.
Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) is a core component of the IB Diploma Programme that encourages personal growth and reflection. Students engage in creative pursuits, physical activities, and community service projects, fostering teamwork, resilience, and global citizenship. CAS emphasizes experiential learning and challenges students to set goals, plan projects, and reflect on their experiences. This program supports holistic development and complements the academic demands of the IB curriculum.
