DP Languages

DP French is designed for students with some prior experience in French who want to develop higher-level communication skills. The course focuses on speaking, listening, reading, and writing in French, while exploring topics such as identity, culture, current events, social issues, and global perspectives. Students analyze authentic texts, films, and media to understand how language reflects culture and meaning. Assessment includes exams and an internal assessment worth about 20%, which is an individual oral task where students discuss a stimulus text and express personal ideas and cultural understanding in French.

DP Spanish ab initio is designed for students with little or no previous experience in Spanish. The course focuses on building basic communication skills needed for everyday situations. Students learn to speak, listen, read, and write in Spanish using common vocabulary and simple sentence structures. Topics include personal identity, daily routines, travel, food, school life, and cultural traditions in Spanish-speaking countries. Assessment includes exams and an internal assessment worth about 20%, which is an individual oral conversation where students respond to visual prompts and discuss familiar themes in Spanish.
