Art Studio 11 allows students to experience all aspects of art. Art Foundations provides a balanced program of study in drawing, painting, sculpture, painting, ceramics and printmaking. Students will develop their knowledge of the elements and principles of design and the expressive qualities of various materials through working with a wide range of media, processes and techniques.
Art Studio 12 is designed to build on previous skills from Art 11. Drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics and mixed media will be used. Projects become more elaborated as students develop their skills.
Studio Art 2D 11 is designed for students who wish to pursue a special interest in drawing and painting. Students will develop skills and understanding in drawing and painting from observation, memory, and imagination. Basic and advanced techniques will be taught using a variety of media that may include graphite, charcoal, pastel, collage, watercolour, acrylic, mixed media and silk painting. Students will learn a variety of techniques and use a variety of materials to create their artwork. Students will have the opportunity to develop personal imagery.

Studio Art 3D 11 teaches the impact of 3-D visual art as a foundation for creating art. Students will have the opportunity to use relief as well as additive and subtractive methods in their work. Knowledge about the sculpture materials used, their history and the tools needed to work them will be acquired. About half of the course will focus on ceramic methods. Students will learn basic and advanced hand building methods as well as work on the pottery wheel. Other sculptural materials may include papier mache, plaster, wire, styrofoam, recycled materials, etc. Students will develop their knowledge of the elements and principles of design and the expressive qualities of the various materials.
Studio Art 3D 12 is an extension and elaboration of knowledge and skill in three dimensional art. This course teaches the impact of 3-D visual art as a foundation for creating art. This course is an introduction to the use of a single lens reflex camera, shooting and development of film, enlarging and basic print manipulation techniques. Students will develop each concept through specific photo assignments. Students will demonstrate knowledge of material covered by planning, shooting, printing and assembling a portfolio of work suitable for exhibition prior to the end of the course. This course often requires that students work independently, so individuals must be mature and self-motivated.
Enjoy the opportunity to learn to sing or hone your skills in a fun-filled singing environment. This course provides you with the opportunity to enhance your knowledge and singing skills in many different styles. Jazz, popular, and classical repertoires will all be covered. You will also have an opportunity to perform at concerts and festivals and to travel. Sight singing and music theory will comprise a component of this course as well as vocal technique. There is no fee for this course, but you will be expected to pay for any travel expenses on outings you choose to participate in. Join the fun!
This class includes former Concert Band, Orchestra, and Jazz Band.
Instrumental Music 11 (Concert Band) Enjoy playing challenging music with accomplished musicians in a large ensemble format. This course is an extension of musical performance, concepts and theory, dealt with in Instrumental Music 10. Instrumentation includes all woodwinds, brass and percussion. Strings, (not including guitar) can be accommodated and piano players would be required to play mallet percussion. You will have opportunities to perform at concerts, festivals and for travel; however you will be required to pay for travel expenses where necessary. Travel is optional and not a requirement of the course and fundraising opportunities are provided to help pay for trip costs.

Guitar 11: This is a continuation of Guitar 10. Students will cover barre, theory, scales, extended chords and chord progressions.
Guitar 12: This course is offered to students with previous guitar experience either with a prerequisite course or private lessons. Advanced guitar is more comprehensive covering advanced barre and extended chords, shell voicings, advanced chord progressions, theory and scales, advanced picking techniques and finger style playing. If you want to take your guitar technique up a few notches this is the course for you.
ACT UP! Do you like to have fun and be active with your friends? Students who choose Theatre Company 11 want to grow their Acting, Film-Making, Public Speaking and Teamwork skills. Acting 11 involves Games, Theatre Sports, Film-making, Scene Writing, Character Creation, Sound-Track Creation, Scripted and Student-written plays. As in all Acting courses you work at improving your skill level at your own pace. Acting, like Science, is a discovery process. You get to explore with your friends and be creative. As this is a performance class, students will be required to rehearse outside of class time, and to participate in public performances.
Theatre Company 12 is designed to provide a theater and film background for those that are new to this creative field of study, and an in depth opportunity for students whose passion is performance. Acting for film and stage is the focus. This course has a performance requirement and we have at least two public shows per semester. Students will be expected to write and act in at least one short film, one musical theater performance, and one public show. NorKam senior actors write and create the Remembrance Day Assembly each year, as well as direct one-act plays of their choice for our Film and Play Festival. There is an expectation that actors at this level are self-disciplined and responsible. Students must be prepared to spend some time in rehearsal outside of class.
