This course is designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop and practice leadership skills which help them become socially responsible citizens. Students will learn various methods and techniques for planning, implementing, and evaluating projects related to planning and executing school intramural activities. It is through creating and running these activities that students will learn and practice concepts and skills of leadership. A strong focus will be on cooperative leadership and inquiry-based learning. Among other elements of effective leadership, students will focus on developing self-awareness, public speaking skills, teamwork skills, improving time management, organization, and communication skills. Ultimately, Leadership students will make a positive difference in their school and community.
Success in this course depends on good attendance, self-motivation, and a willingness to try to learn new things.

The NorKam yearbook is assembled and published by Futurebook Yearboooks. It is the job of the yearbook staff to:
develop a theme,
plan pages and a page ladder,
take photos to support the theme,
organize files
learn the elements of print design
work with publishing software to create yearbook pages
promote book sales.
This is a project-based course with real-world experiences and results.

Recommended: A minimum C+ in English 10 & Socials Studies 10 as the reading comprehension required for this course is fairly advanced.
Psych 11/12 : In this introductory psychology course, students will learn about the founding researchers of early psychology, including how philosophy paved the way for modern day psychological methods. Students will also learn about the way our brains work and how we interact with others and in the world around us. The course will include a brief look at how to conduct research and what ethical conditions psychologists must meet when conducting formal research. Students will participate in and administer informal psychology labs and activities, look at major studies, learn to critically assess research and experimentation in psychology. Students will conclude the course by completing a Capstone research project about a topic of interest.
Students interested in becoming a teaching assistant with teachers on staff should first approach the subject teacher and inform them of their interest. If the teacher approves and agrees to the request, they will initiate the process of filling out a Teaching Assistant Application form. The student, along with the parent(s), will complete the form. Once the application is completed, students must make an appointment with their counsellors for scheduling.
