DP Mathematics develops logical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate mathematical ideas clearly. Students study topics such as algebra, functions, geometry, statistics, and probability. They learn how mathematics applies to real-world situations and other subjects. The course includes an internal assessment worth about 20%, called a mathematical exploration, where students investigate a topic of personal interest using mathematics. Mathematics does require students to do a significant amount of mathematics without the use of a calculator to help promote an in-depth understanding of the underlying concepts.
