Dr. Velma Yep

Dr. Velma Yep, DNP Class of 2021

Dr. Yep received the 2022 Philippine Nurses Association of America Foundation (PNAAF) Fellowship award.


The PNAAF promotes and provides opportunities for philanthropy in support of the professional advancement of all Filipino American nurses and health for all through nursing care, education, scholarship, management, and research.


Dr. Yep obtained her Master's degree in 2002 and Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in 2021 from the School of Nursing at the University of California in Los Angeles. She is a board-certified geriatric nurse practitioner. Her doctoral scholarly quality improvement project is 'Addressing the Appropriateness of Medications in the 65 and Older Patients in the Outpatient Setting', which she presented in her poster presentation at the California Association for Nurse Practitioners' (CANP) recent annual educational conference. Her project's poster was also presented at the National Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence (NHCGNE).


Dr. Yep is the immediate past president of the CANP Inland Empire chapter, the current vice president for the Philippine Nurses Association of Southern California (PNASC), and the Legislative Representative for the PNA Western Region. She is an active advocate for nurse practitioners and promotes the value of nurse practitioners by meeting with local and State legislative representatives and in community outreach programs. She had lobbied at the State Capitol with colleagues to pass AB890 (Full Practice Authority for NPs). She is also an active member of the Health and Justice committee for CANP.


Dr. Yep is currently the lead Geriatric/ Internal Medicine/ Urgent Care nurse practitioner for Chaparral Medical Group and is part of the medical staff at the Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. She is a Sigma Theta Tau member. She was inspired by her beloved mother, a former professor of nursing and public health nurse, who is instrumental in her passion for the nursing profession.
