I can
I can identify the difference between a letter, word, and sentence.
This week we are learning the difference between a letter, word, and sentence. This is very beneficial as we begin learning how to read in Kindergarten!
Read Aloud: We are working on making predictions and using text evidence to support our predictions.
A great wait to practice this at home is to stop as you are reading a story and ask your child questions.
Before Reading: Look at the front cover of the book. Based on the title and illustrations, what do you think is going to happen in the books?
During Reading: What do you think is going to happen next? What in the text makes you think that?
During/ After Reading: Was your prediction correct?
I can write about people, places, and things.
This week we are practicing storytelling by writing (and drawing) about people, places, and things!
In our drawings, we are identifying the difference between a person, place, or thing. We are also discussing how writers revise their work and can always add more details.
At home you can encourage your writers to tell you about their drawings and ask how they can add more details.
Additionally, you can encourage writing at home with your child by practicing writing their name and identifying the letters in their name.
